Experienced Swiss Farmer Looking for Farm or Ranch Sitting in British Columbia – 2027
Hello, my name is Beat and I am an experienced farmer from Switzerland.
I am looking for a farm or ranch sitting opportunity in British Columbia in 2027. Ideally, I am available from around mid-May to mid-August, but I am very flexible with both dates and length of stay. For the right opportunity, I am happy to adapt my travel plans.
I have many years of practical experience running and working on a farm in Switzerland, including arable farming and livestock. I am experienced with cattle and goats, animal care, pasture and grazing management, fencing, tractors and agricultural machinery, field work and general farm maintenance.
In 2026, I spent an extended period independently looking after a cattle farm near Otorohanga, New Zealand, while the owners were away. My daily responsibilities included checking cattle, managing grazing and moving or extending grazing areas as required. I particularly enjoyed the responsibility and independence of this experience.
I am especially interested in looking after a farm, ranch or rural property while the owners are travelling for several weeks or months. I am comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for animals, property and day-to-day farm operations.
I am very flexible about the arrangement. I am happy to discuss responsibilities, working hours and free time, accommodation and meals, access to a vehicle, and whether the arrangement is unpaid with room and board or paid where legally possible.
For me, a good personal fit, mutual trust and clear expectations are more important than following one fixed model.
I am not simply looking for a job or a place to stay. I would like to experience rural life in British Columbia, meet people and get to know the country through everyday farm life rather than only as a tourist.

Farmer / Farm Manager, Own Family Farm – Switzerland (1996 – Present)
Managing my own agricultural farm in Switzerland since 1996, with many years of responsibility for crop production, agricultural machinery, field work, farm maintenance and day-to-day farm management. I also have extensive livestock experience, including many years with dairy cattle, as well as suckler cows and beef production, breeding sows, turkeys and goats. I am experienced in the daily care and observation of livestock and accustomed to taking full responsibility for animals and farm operations.

Farm Sitter / Farm Caretaker, Cattle Farm – Otorohanga, New Zealand (May – August 2026)
Independently looked after a cattle farm while the owners were away. Responsible for daily cattle checks, grazing management and moving or extending grazing areas as required. Lived independently on the farm and took responsibility for the day-to-day care of the livestock and property.

Volunteer Farm Helper – Grain Harvest, Grain Farm – Western Australia (Summer 2018 and 2023)
Stayed and helped voluntarily on a grain farm in Western Australia in 2018 and again in 2023. Assisted during the grain harvest and gained practical experience of Australian broadacre farming and harvest operations.
