Terms of use
Effective October 4, 2026.
These terms apply to everyone who uses farmsit.ca, whether you are looking for a farm sitter or listing yourself as one. By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
1. Who we are
Farmsit is run by Laura Taylor, operating as Farmsit, a sole proprietorship in Ontario, Canada (“Farmsit”, “we”, “us”). You can reach us at info@farmsit.ca.
2. What Farmsit is, and isn’t
Farmsit is an online directory that helps farm owners find people who can look after their animals and property. We are not an employer, staffing agency or broker, and we are not a party to any arrangement between an owner and a sitter. We do not employ, supervise, train, insure or guarantee sitters or owners.
We review new sitter listings before they appear, but we do not verify identity, experience, skills, references or police checks. What a listing says is the sitter’s own description.
3. If you are a farm owner
- You are responsible for choosing a sitter. Meet them, check references, and ask to see any police check they offer.
- Give clear written instructions, including emergency contacts and your veterinarian’s details.
- Check with your insurer that a sitter is covered while on your property.
- Depending on how you arrange the work, you may have obligations under employment, tax or workplace safety law. Get advice if you’re unsure.
4. If you are a sitter
Sitters must also follow the Sitter listing terms, which form part of these terms.
5. Arrangements and payment
Owners and sitters agree on dates, duties and pay directly with each other. Farmsit does not take a commission and does not handle any payment between owners and sitters.
6. Animal health
Farmsit does not list veterinary services. Sitters must not carry out any act that legally requires a veterinarian, and Farmsit does not list giving injections as a skill. When an animal needs medical care, contact a veterinarian.
7. Using the site
You agree not to:
- post false, misleading or someone else’s information;
- use the contact form for advertising, spam or anything other than a genuine sitting enquiry;
- harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone;
- copy or scrape listings, or try to get around our security or spam protection.
8. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. You give Farmsit permission to display it on the site and to use it to run and promote Farmsit. We may edit, hide or remove any listing or content that breaks these terms or that we reasonably think puts people or animals at risk.
9. Fees
Searching and contacting sitters is free. Listing as a sitter is currently free. We may introduce a yearly listing fee (planned at $20 CAD per year, not before the end of 2027). If we do, we will email listed sitters at least 60 days before it starts and publish the details, including renewal and refund terms, before anyone is charged. Sitters who sign up in 2026 (“founding sitters”) will not be charged for their first year after fees start.
10. No warranty
Farmsit is provided “as is”. We do our best to keep it working and accurate, but we don’t promise that it will always be available, error-free, or that any sitter or owner is suitable for you.
11. Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Farmsit is not liable for any loss, injury, illness or damage (including to animals, crops, buildings or equipment) arising from an arrangement made through the site, or from anything an owner or sitter does or fails to do. Where we are found liable, our total liability is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and $100 CAD. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be limited.
12. Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against Farmsit because of your listing, your conduct, or an arrangement you made through the site, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it.
13. Suspending or closing accounts
We may suspend or remove a listing or account that breaks these terms. You can delete your account at any time from My listing.
14. Privacy
Our Privacy policy explains how we handle personal information.
15. Changes and governing law
We may update these terms. If a change is significant, we will tell listed sitters by email before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and any dispute will be handled by the courts of Ontario.
