Sitter listing terms

Effective October 4, 2026.

These terms apply to anyone who lists themselves as a farm sitter on Farmsit. They are part of our Terms of use.

1. Who can list

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must be legally able to do the work you offer in Canada.
  • One listing per person or couple. Couples who sit together may share a listing.

2. Your listing

  • Everything in your listing must be true and up to date, including your experience, skill levels, references and whether you can provide a police check.
  • Only offer skills you can safely perform. Farmsit does not list veterinary services or injections, and you must not carry out any act that legally requires a veterinarian.
  • Your name, photo, town or area, the first 3 characters of your postal code, experience, skills, animals, services, rate and availability calendar are shown publicly. Your email address and phone number are not.
  • Keep your calendar current so owners only contact you for dates you can work.

3. Review and approval

We review new listings, usually within two business days, and may ask you questions or decline a listing. Approval is not an endorsement or a background check.

4. Working with owners

  • Reply to enquiries promptly, even if the answer is no.
  • Use owners’ contact details only to discuss sitting work.
  • Agree on dates, duties, pay and what to do in an emergency in writing before you start.
  • Respect the owner’s property, animals and privacy, and follow animal welfare and biosecurity rules.
  • If something goes wrong, contact the owner and, where an animal’s health is at risk, a veterinarian straight away.

5. Your status

You are an independent sitter, not an employee or agent of Farmsit. You are responsible for your own taxes and for any insurance you need. We recommend that sitters consider personal liability insurance.

6. How long a listing lasts

A listing is active for one year from approval. We email you before it expires so you can renew. While listing is free, renewing is free and takes one click. Expired listings are hidden from owners.

7. Fees and founding sitters

Listing is free for now. We may introduce a yearly fee (planned at $20 CAD per year, not before the end of 2027). We will email you at least 60 days before any fee starts. If you signed up in 2026, you are a founding sitter: you will not be charged for your first year after fees start.

8. Pausing, removal and deleting your account

You can pause your listing or delete your account at any time from My listing. We may hide or remove a listing that breaks these terms, receives credible complaints, or puts people or animals at risk.
